Independent Scientific Advice: Comparing Policies on Conflicts of Interest in the EU and the US
This article highlights the importance of unbiased scientific advice in the European Union’s legal system. It then analyses and compares the policies in force throughout the European Food Safety Authority, European Medicines Agency and European Commission’s Scientific Committees with the one implemented by the US Food and Drugs Administration.
The author argues that at the present time the framework adopted and implemented by the European Food Safety Authority seems to be the most complete and stringent amongst those taken into account in the article and he advances some proposals for further improvement of the policies regulating conflict of interest.

Im Rahmen des EU-Projektes SHARE wurde ein GIS-Tool entwickelt, adaptiert und getestet, um schnell und strukturiert das Wasserkraftpotential einer Region erheben zu können. Dafür kam die von der italienischen Firma RSE entwickelte Software Vapidro-Aste zum Einsatz. Im getesteten Einzugsbiet der Mürz, einem Zubringer der Mur, konnte das Wasserkraftpotential damit ermittelt werden. Der erfolgreiche Vergleich von möglichen Wasserkraftstandorten mit bereits bestehenden Anlagen zeigte, dass die Software sehr gut für die Bestimmung des Wasserkraftpotentials geeignet ist.
